Olam Agri supports Nigeria’s food security efforts
On the occasion of World Food Day (WFD), Olam Agri has reiterated its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s food security through sponsorship of impactful events, including the recent Eko World Food Day initiative.
Speaking at the Eco World Food Day, Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Bisola Olusanya, said: “Olam Agri is an essential partner in transforming the food production landscape in Lagos.” Their robust production, processing, packaging and distribution capabilities play a critical role in scaling the Growth across the entire food value chain. This partnership with the state government is critical to achieving our shared food security goals.”
In addition to sponsoring these transformative events, the company worked with the Lagos Food Bank to distribute 800 food boxes worth £13 million to vulnerable residents.
Likewise, the company has commissioned boreholes in Baure and Agon, two important agricultural communities in Nasarawa State, where it operates rice and sesame plants. These boreholes will provide clean drinking water, improve food security and increase agricultural productivity by reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and improving the overall health of the population.
The Managing Director of Olam Agri Nigeria, Anil Nair, highlighted the company’s commitment to food security, stating: “The right to food and nutrition is fundamental to inclusive growth.” We are committed to ensuring access to quality, nutritious food for all Nigerians and affordable food. Our social investment projects, such as sponsoring World Food Day, distributing food boxes and commissioning boreholes, directly contribute to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda and the UN sustainability goal of Zero Hunger.”
